To Russell, My Brother, Whom I Slept With.

Well, it's been a while since I posted anything more than my daily readings. So, here's an attempt at just that.
Not much been goin down in motown. I got an email back from Lake Retreat's current program director (a new one this year). I emailed him to say that I was coming to camp, ready and willing to take any position I was asked to fill. The reply was that I was to be Senior Male Counselor! Dum, dum, dum! This is going to be a big leap for me (last summer was my first experience with camp at all, and now I'm in charge of every guy there!), but I'm going to take it with God on my side. Last summer, I knew within the first day or two of having my first cabin (not the most pleasant) that I wasn't going to be doing anything solo, and I needed God to keep me going. This was good. We tend to get caught up so much in our daily hustle and bustle that we forget all the little things, and that we do need God to help us through.
[Here, I would like to plug working at a summer camp. Never before had I seen God at work and working in me then I did at camp. Even things that were either A) God, or B) Satan trying to screw with God's plan for me only strengthened my faith in God. My main example of this was seeing the word 'Yes' written in clouds when I was out by the rock climbing wall, laying, praying and considering decisions I had to make, and it was either Satan being a bum {but I only thought it was God, so my faith was bolstered} or it was in fact God {bolstered still}. Camp is awesome, you get to spend time with Christians for, basically, a month and a half and you all have the same intent {camp}. Go camp!]
Hmm, this post seemed to quickly turn into more than I expected. Great! Hope this in some way helps someone (camp rocks, God works, people grow), whether a camper, staffer, counselor, or any of the previous-to-be.
Have a good day everyone.

"Trust men and they will be true to you; treat them greatly, and they will show themselves great."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit"
- Matthew 28:19

Sure, I Guess...

"Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No' be 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one."
- Matthew 5:33-37

Fly, Fly, My Little Kite.

"You are the salt of the earth."
- Matthew 5:13a

"You are the light of the world."
- Matthew 5:14a

"You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.
"Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.
"Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. I tell you the truth, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny."
- Matthew 5:21-26

Hope For The Hopeless.

"'Meaningless! Meaningless!' says the Teacher.
'Everything is meaningless!'"
- Ecclesiastes 12:8

"The words of the wise are like goads, their collected savings like firmly embedded nails - given by one Shepherd. Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them."
- Ecclesiastes 12:11-12a

"Now all has been heard:
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil."
- Ecclesiastes 12:12-14

Wise Fools.

"Anyone who is among the living has hope - even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!"
- Ecclesiastes 9:4

"Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun - all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun."
- Ecclesiastes 9:9

"The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fools.
Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good."
- Ecclesiastes 9:17-18

"Words from a wise man's mouth are gracious, but a fool is consumed by his own lips."
- Ecclesiastes 10:12

Below The Belt.

"It is better to heed a wise man's rebuke than to listen to the song of fools."
- Ecclesiastes 7:5

"Do not say, 'why were the old days better than these?'
For it is not wise to ask such questions."
- Ecclesiastes 7:10

Ooh, He's always hitting where it hurts...

Mas! Mas!

"That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil - this is the gift of God."
- Ecclesiastes 3:13

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down, his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!"
- Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."
- Ecclesiastes 4:12

Shine, Make 'em Wonder What You've Got.

A good call from my good commenter Robb (have we met? I suppose there's a chance...)

"Consider what God has done:
Who can straighten what he has made crooked?
When times are good, be happy;
but when times are bad, consider:
God has made the one
as well as the other.
Therefore, a man cannot discover
anything about his future."
- Ecclesiastes 7:13-14

Know it, friend.

Vanity! All is Vanity!

Discovered in Ecclesiastes whilst reading a study note on it (I read the note before the verse, so that's what made me take notice of it):
"What is twisted cannot be straightened;
what is lacking cannot be counted."
- Ecclesiastes 1:15

The study note also happens to go with what Sir Chad was saying:
"We should therefore learn to happily accept things the way they are and to accept our divinely appointed lot in life, as the Teacher later councels."

- Ecclesiastes 1:15 study note, p986

Contentment, Just For You

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
- Romans 15:13

And I raise you a
"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
- Galations 5:22-23

Engineering Homework

Our homework assignment for Engineering Orientation was to come up with 2-3 engineering disciplines that may come up in the future (but haven't yet). So, behold my third:

Uncivil Engineering
One of the smallest branches of engineering, uncivil engineering is a field that deals with buildings, bridges, dams, roads, and other structures. Uncivil engineers plan, design, and supervise the destruction of facilities such as high-rise buildings, airports, water treatment centers, and sanitation plants. Uncivil engineers will need to design the special explosives and devices used to destroy the rail beds for the magnetic levitation trains of tomorrow, the day after tomorrow. Soon we will be able to travel on these environmentally safe and efficient trains from coast to coast at 200-300 miles per hour, but we all know someone will mess it up, creating a cataclysmic mishap, and uncivil engineers will once again have to save the day.

(Note: it is very important that the reader understand that this paragraph was not copied, pasted and modified from the ASEE website given by the teacher. It is also important that the reader understand that this is not a joke. Third, the reader must also understand that I do not have a sense of humor, I am not tall, and this class is not interesting. Thank you.)

Jobs include:
Destructioneers, who blow stuff up
Restructioneers, who blow stuff up so it moves to another location (very precise discipline)
Fall Guys, who take the fall when everything goes wrong (things like that happen when you start blowing stuff up like this)

She's a Lady...

The title came from visiting the Apple store at Alderwood Mall today. They had a dual-3.5Ghz running on a humongo monitor (probably 23-30" flat screen). On the iTunes, they have a variety of songs pre-loaded so you can check out the system they have set up. Before I left, that's the song I left playing with a little extra volume for my fellow consumers :).

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast."
-Ephesians 2:8-9

Blogless

There seems to be a bit of a blog famine/drought around, so I figured I'd get my toocus in gear and rectify the situation.
Update on illness: went to the doc today, gave me Flonase and Clarinex to help me out. He said it was viral, and my nose is draining down my throat (thereby causing me to cough), so the Flonase is supposed to dry it up nice and finish all this business! Works good so far, I only have to do each of them once a day. My nose is already clearer from the spray, and it's quite relieving.
As for my reading, I've had time for it, which I quite like. I've been reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, and it's quite funny. It has excellent writing, which is where most of the humor is. I love it, it seems more like intellectual humor than just something funny happening - then it's over. I'm on book two of six, and plan to finish them all before the release of the movie at the end of the month.

Peace out, my weasels.
