Reflections on The Man and his institutions (Institutions of The Man).

Institution of The Man number one: School. I hate "grades" and other tags The Man puts on people and their value in the world. I love learning, the learning environment, the social aspect of school (although, being at community college it's somewhat dissolved due to the size of the school), but I just can't stand grades. Learning can be very productive when you choose what you want to learn, when you choose your pace, when you choose to do it. Thus, choice makes the world happy. Bad choices make the world turn to CRAP (mumble, cough, Bush, elipses). War is a bad choice. Crime is a bad choice. So many bad choices have been and will be made to screw up the world.

My only plee is this: Please do your part in abolishing bad choices (aka make good choices, not kill bad people).

Institution of The Man number two: Careers. Nobody knows what they want to do in life. I am currently a member of the club, and I don't see any way of getting out anytime soon. Everyone has something they like to do; hobbies, interests, what have you. I share such things. I like photography, sports; well, just look at my little profile-dilly. I recently had a small conversation with a co-worker who shared my view on this. Whatever you like doing, what you have a "passion" for, whatever your interests may be, you can't do whatever it is for your job and life will be peachy. If you do what you love for work, you won't like it any more! Novel idea. The reason people like or dislike things is because God gave us choice (which we royally screwed up from the start). You can choose to like something or dislike it, but once choice is removed, everything pretty much defaults to dislike. Being bossed around just takes all the fun out of things. Also, whatever your hobbies are, the reason you love them is because they are your break from work, so if they were your work, things just wouldn't be so nice.

For now, I conclude the first installment of Institutions of The Man. More to come? Only time (and The Man, and his plots, and God) will tell...
Good work everyone, hit the showers.
