Ode du Nalgene

The assistant boss says I need to update my blog, since I'm apparently "behind." You know, since it's been more than a day since I've posted and, unlike everyone else, I am clearly obligated to post at least every other day, lest I be in some sort of trouble or isolation.

Not much has happened of late. Had a nice long weekend, Moi and Jenny came home (or at least I hear Moi came home...). Friday was a rough day at clubhouse, not very enjoyable. Friday evening was a Sambica staff reunion party. I am, of course, not a Sambica summer staffer, but I was still expected. It ended up being fun though. Besides the interns and current staff, there were (I think) six others that I knew there. Half through Sambica this year, half through Lake Retreat previous years. We had a 'Posada', which is some sort of Mexican tradition. After that was mexican food for dinner.
Andy, Satchmo and I were a mariachi band. At first it sounded kind of lame to Satchmo and I; we were told to wear jeans and a white button-up. Both of us were like "yeah, we're going to be real cool in jeans that don't match and shirts that do standing around pretending to play music..." Once people had started eating, the three of us went over to Andy's office to get ready for our banding. Turns out Andy had quite the plan up his sleeve (thank goodness). He had matching vests for all three of us, sombreros, little green neck-tie things, shiny red ribbon for sashes, fake moustaches and those little cheapo masks that cover around your eyes and your nose (in red). So, the three of us looked pretty sweet when all was said and done. We went over to the forum where everybody was and busted in with some music, totally faking playing (not well, but funny not-remotely-correct playing). We were all over the place. The people loved it. We left, then re-entered for photos and socializing. We ended up eating with our costumes on (Satchmo and I kept up with our accents trying to entertain two of a staffer's kids; lots of fun), though we couldn't eat with moustaches still in.
That was all followed by a little piƱata abuse and a big ol' white elephant. At the elephant there were seven or eight extra gifts. At the end of it, the people with the seven or eight 'worst' gifts got an extra. I was one of those :). I started with a novel called The Kite Runner and an old school Newsboys VHS (not even all the way rewound). As a bonus gift I got a couple CDs. Songs from the Penalty Box 5 which is a various artist CD with songs from a bunch of Christian alt bands. The second was an advanced release from Sixpence None the Richer (which was a total score).
All in all, I had a fun night, even though I didn't think I was going to.
Saturday was Jenny coming home, dinner at her parent's house (Diane makes the Best chicken/broccoli casserole EVER) then ice skating with the fearsome foursome, Jenny, Pete and Chris. Post-skate we returned to Jenny's for some water and social interaction.
Sunday: breakfast, church, cookie "potluck," lunch, put up the Turnidge tree, verse packets, dinner, movie and ice cream. No nap this week, though :(. So sad.

This week in clubhouse is a field trip every day. Today was bowling, tomorrow is ice skating and the day after is the Reindeer Festival or something like that (movie day Thursday, but I'll be gone).

I think this is all entirely enough of a post. Not much left for me. I leave for AZ Wednesday evening and come back next week Thursday.
